Breeder Caretaker Contract

1. Prior to placement the caretaker agrees to have a site visit by Canine Co-Pilots staff, and an interview with the entire household (pets included). They agree to perform regular canine hygiene care, such as grooming, nail trimming, bathing and teeth brushing.

2. The breeder dog may only be used for the purposes of the Canine Co-Pilots breeding program. The dog may not be used by anyone else for advertising, sperm collection, breeding, or any other purpose. No offspring may be kept, sold or used by anyone other than Canine Co-Pilots.

3. Breeder dogs must live and sleep in breeder caretaker’s home. Safety provisions must be made for swimming pools or other bodies of water within the yard.

4. Breeder dogs must be kept on leash anytime outside of fenced area.

5. The status of the breeder dog will be continually evaluated to determine fitness and desirability for breeding prospects. The dog may be retired from breeding service at any time deemed necessary by Canine Co-Pilots.

6. I agree to submit copies of my veterinarian’s notes to Canine Co-Pilots regarding any vet appointment so that Canine Co-Pilots may be kept informed regarding the dog’s health.

7. Breeder dogs do not have public access rights as service dogs.

8. Costs will be paid as follows:

By Canine Co-Pilots: microchipping, vet check and required vaccines prior to placement, tests related to breeding and whelping with vet of our choice.

By breeder caretaker: food, routine health care, subsequent vaccinations, care needed as a result of injuries, and transportation to and from Canine Co-

Pilots for breeding.

9. For female breeders: the breeder caretaker must alert Canine Co-Pilots to spotting, being in heat, estrus, or any potential health problem. Generally, the female will be returned to Canine Co-Pilots 1.5 weeks before whelping. The dog will be returned to the breeder caretaker 5-6 weeks after birth. Breeding will begin at approximately 2 years of age, and breedings will be at the discretion of Canine Co-Pilots with the advice of our vet. This contract will be for up to four litters or six years of age.

10. For male breeders: the breeder caretaker must transport the dog to Canine Co-Pilots for breeding with a minimum of 24 hour notice. The stud may be left for the day or for the necessary breeding period. The stud may be bred to a maximum of 8 females per year. The breeding contract for stud dogs will be for the life of the dog or until retired by Canine Co-Pilots.

11. The breeder caretaker will make every effort to insure that the dog will not be allowed contact with any other dog which may result in an unauthorized breeding.

12. Any unusual incident or injury will be reported to Canine Co-Pilots within 48 hours.

13. If health issues become too serious, and it is not cost effective for Canine Co-Pilots to treat a medical problem, the dog may be retired from breeding service. The breeder caretaker may choose, if they desire, to keep the dog and incur the vet costs themselves.

14. At release from the breeding program, the dog will be spayed or neutered at Canine Co-Pilots expense. At that point, the dog will become the property of the breeder caretaker.

15. The dog does not belong to the breeder caretaker until this contract is fulfilled.

16. In the instance of death or incapacitation of the breeder caretaker, the dog will be returned to Canine Co-Pilots. If desired, a family member may renegotiate the contract.

17. While owned by Canine Co-Pilots, any decision regarding the dog will be at the sole discretion of Canine Co-Pilots.

18. I agree to notify Canine Co-Pilots of any phone or address changes. I also agree to an additional home visit if I move.

19. Canine Co-Pilots reserves the right to revoke this contract at any time.
